Why was my post rejected by Yahoo?

You can send messages/posts directly from your Freecycle group's home page using the "Post" link on the left hand side, but if you are using your own email program then you must send group messages to the correct address linked here:-

Post message to Cherwell Valley Freegle

You must send emails from the address which you used to subscribe to the group.

You must send messages in plain text, not HTML.

If you are sure you are doing all of these and yahoo groups help cannot help, then contact your group's list owner / moderators and explain the problem - include a copy of any rejection message you have had, and we'll try our best.
You can email the Cherwell Valley Freegle owner here

Why was my post rejected / deleted by the moderators?

We usually put the reasons in the rejection message sent to the message author, we like to take a light touch to moderating messages but in general, the most common reasons are:

Your post is missing information in the subject line (OFFER/TAKEN/WANTED/RECEIVED, item, location)

You posted an off-topic message eg. discussions, notices or questions.

Your item is not relevant to Freegle's purpose of "reducing waste and landfill" (e.g. animals, asking to borrow items)

You re-posted a WANTED message within 7 days.

Why am I not receiving messages from the group?

There are several possibilities:

You have set your membership to Special Notices or No Email. Log in to the group and choose "edit membership" to select Individual Emails or Digest:

Messages to you have been bouncing back, e.g. if your mailbox is full (check with the moderators to see if this is the case).

Messages are being classified as spam by your ISP or email provider. Check whether you can "whitelist" the address of your Freecycle group to force them to allow group messages through; also try adding the address to your addressbook, which may have the same effect (this is true for Yahoo mail).

If you believe you have checked all these possibilities and yahoo groups help has not solved the problem, email your moderators and we'll do our best.

Is it OK to take items and then sell them or use them for business?

YES, but on one condition:

You clearly state in your message post or via email when you are responding to an offer that you are planning to sell the items on.

Freegle's one overriding aim is to keep stuff out of landfill - we don't really mind where it goes as long as someone is making use of it.

Just remember to be honest.

I'm going away, how do I stop receiving emails?

After clicking on the "edit membership" link on your group's home page (see image above) you can choose Special Notices (we send out few of these, seldom more than 2 per month) - and you won't get any of the other group messages.

Please note it can sometimes take a couple of days for the change to take effect - this is down to Yahoo and we can't speed it up, no matter how much we would like to!

How do I change the email address that Freegle messages are sent to?

After clicking on the "edit membership" link on your group's home page (see image above) you can either choose another email address that you have already confirmed with Yahoo (listed in the drop-down menu), or add a new email address (using the link next to the menu). If you add a new address, you will shortly receive a verification email from Yahoo - you must follow the instructions in that message in order to make the address available for use. (This is to stop people signing up email addresses that don't belong to them.)

Please note it can sometimes take a couple of days for the change to take effect - this is down to Yahoo and we can't speed it up, no matter how much we would like to! Also note that the moderators cannot change your address for you.

How do I leave the group?

If you are sure you want to leave the group, and not just change the email address you use or choose to read messages on the web, then there are two ways you an unsubscribe. You can click on the "edit membership" link on your group's home page (see image above) and choose to leave the group, or you can send an email to your group's unsubscribe address.

Note that the email must come from the address which you use to subscribe to the group. If you have problems please email the moderators.
